Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are situated south of Bangkok. It is easy and quick to get there. Bangkok Airways fly to Samui many times daily and it is less than one hour from Bangkok. The airport is not far from the busy resort of Chaweng.
If you prefer to go to Koh Phangan or Koh Tao they are just a short ferry ride away.
A cheaper way to get there is to take an overnight bus or train from Bangkok to Surattani and then take a ferry.
Phuket is only a one hour flight away from Bangkok and remains a popular island.
Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, and Koh Jum can be accessed by ferry.
Other popular destinations are Koh Chang and Koh Samet.

Bangkok transportation
Many tourists stay in Sukhumvit, Silom or Banglumphu. It is easy to get to these areas from the airport by express bus. The cost is 150 baht.

The airport train which will take you to central Bangkok will open in August, 2010. The express train will only take 15 minutes to Payathai. This station also links to the sky train (BTS) and subway (MRT). The express train costs 150 baht. Alternatively, there are public taxis at the airport and the cost to central Bangkok should be approximately 300 baht on the meter plus 50 baht airport surcharge. Do not accept an offer to go with the meter turned off.
