Our most popular journey is from Bangkok to Chang Mai which will cost, depending on fan or air conditioning, 591 baht and 921 baht respectively on the overnight train. Please book at least 2 days in advance in case the train is full. On National holidays book seven days in advance.

All long distance trains use Bangkok's main Hualamphong station not far from Chinatown.  It is a busy area and in the future it will be moved further North to ease congestion.

Trains in Bangkok have three classes, 1st,2nd and 3rd;  second class is the most popular with a choice of air conditioning or fan with a slight difference in price.  Trains from Bangkok to Chiang Mai leave mainly in the evening so travellers can sleep whilst the train makes its slow journey northward.  The seats transform themselves in to beds at 9-00pm when the stewards come along and make up the beds.

Children aged 4-11 and under 150cm travel at half price; children 12 and over pay full fare.

We can arrange bus tickets to virtually anywhere in Thailand. For example Phuket will cost 800 baht and Chang Mai 390 baht traveling overnight.

 

If you come from one of the following countries you will be allowed to stay in Thailand for 30 days if you arrive via an international airport…

If you are likely to stay in Thailand for more than 30 days it is best to apply for a Tourist visa
in your own country;  a 60 day tourist visa can be extended for 30 days whereas a 30 day
exemption stamp can only be extended for 7 days.

If you need to extend you will have to make a visit to the new Immigration Office at soi 7
Chang Wattana road, Laksi, Bangkok.  By taxi approx 200 baht from central Bangkok.
The extension will cost 1900 baht.

Alternatively you can do a border/visa run; you travel to the nearest convenient border in the morning and return in the evening.  In the case of Thailand most people go to Aranyapratet/Poipet.

If you re-enter Thailand by a land border you will receive 15 days, or by air 30 days.

Canary Travel can help facilitate your visa run to the Cambodian border Aranya Prathet / Poi Pet border for only 1700 baht. You leave Khao San Road at 8.30 am and will be back the same day. This is a very quick and cost effective way to, for example, to utilize the second entry on a double entry tourist visa.

Also add Don’t forget to bring a passport sized photo of yourself or you will have to pay a further 100 baht.

An alternative is to go to Vientienne and apply for a double entry visa, however if you are deemed to have too many back-to -back visas you may have a red warning stamp placed in your passport and future applications may not be accepted!

Some people find it easier to have an ED visa(education) whereby they learn Thai.  Students who enroll at a school on a one year course are eligible to apply for a one year non-immigrant ED visa.
